Back to the grind, gents. Hope the weekend treated you well. College football is kicking off, and you can almost taste fall…if only the heat would chill out. Let’s dive in.

📕 DAD WISDOM
Ocean of Patience
I came across a line recently: “Average fathers have patience. Good fathers have more patience. Great fathers have an ocean of patience.”
It’s been raining nonstop in Charleston since Friday, and let’s just say my “ocean” of patience has been tested while stuck inside with the kids.
But that’s the game, right? Patience isn’t just about not losing it, it’s about showing your kids how to stay calm when everything feels cramped and chaotic.
Sometimes the reminder is simple: the storm passes, the sun comes back out, and they’re still looking at you to see how you handled it.

RAD DAD
Erik Weihenmayer
Erik Weihenmayer is living proof that no barrier is too big. Blind since 14, he became the first blind person to summit Mount Everest, went on to complete the Seven Summits, and even kayaked the entire Grand Canyon. But beyond the feats, he’s a dad committed to showing his daughter what’s possible.
Weihenmayer believes in giving kids the tools to thrive: “The key is to really have tremendously high expectations and to teach kids how to be self-sufficient and confident.” For him, adventure is the classroom—whether it’s exploring the outdoors, taking responsibility, or learning the consequences of choices.
As a father, he’s intentional about breaking boundaries and helping his daughter see that “there’s a very blurry line between the things we can’t do and the things we can.”
Why he’s a Rad Dad: Because he’s raised his daughter to see resilience and possibility not as abstract ideas, but as a way of life. Follow Erik here.

DAD TOYS
Jorts for the Dads
I cracked a joke about jorts in a recent newsletter, and the crew at Mugsy (yep, they read Dad Day) kindly sent me a pair. Had to give them the nod. They’re as close to real jorts as you’ll get. My wife even approves, which might be the biggest win.
I already own a few pairs of their jeans, and they’re the real deal.
👉 Get yourself some jorts today.

DAD BOD
Dexa Scan

Ever heard of a DEXA scan? It’s basically the gold standard for measuring body composition. Unlike a regular scale, it breaks down your exact fat, muscle, and bone density—so you actually know what’s going on inside your body.
Why consider it? It’s a great baseline if you’re chasing fitness goals, want to track progress beyond the scale, or just want a clear picture of your health as you age.
Cost? Usually between $50–$150 depending on where you go. Think of it as an investment in actually knowing your numbers instead of guessing.
👉 Worth doing at least once to see where you stand.

If you’ve been reading lately, you know we’ve been pushing the idea of a Fall Challenge. Doesn’t have to be a marathon. It could be your first 5k, a Tough Mudder, or even just committing to hit the gym 3x a week. There’s power in putting a date on the calendar and working toward it.
The older I get, the more I realize how important fitness is, not just for me, but for my kids to see. When they wander into the garage and try moving around some iron, it’s a reminder that they’re watching how we show up and do hard things.
That’s why we started @daddayrunclub on IG. It’s been awesome seeing dads share what they’re training for and what’s motivating them. Personally, I’m 4 weeks into training for the Charlotte Marathon and using Runna. It’s my 3rd marathon, but the app has slowed me down (in a good way) and kept me on track.
Whether you’re tackling your first race or just want to build consistency, I can’t recommend Runna enough. Try it free for 2 weeks with code DADDAY. And if you sign up for something this fall, DM us over at @daddayrunclub—we’d love to feature you.
