📕 DAD WISDOM

It’s Just Stuff

As of late, my boys (6 and 3) have been tearing through my stuff like tiny tornadoes. Tools go missing. Toys I thought were mine are now covered in sidewalk chalk. Even the tape measure has become a sword.

At first, I found myself getting annoyed—snapping over broken things or stuff out of place. But then it hit me: it's just stuff.

So now? You want to mess with the drill? Cool. Here’s a scrap piece of wood and a bit—have at it. Wanna build something, take something apart, figure out how it works? Let's go.

I'm not saying everything’s fair game (my motorcycle is off limits). But I’ve started asking myself more often: does this really matter?

The answer’s usually no. What does matter is that they’re curious, engaged, learning. And maybe breaking a few things along the way is just part of it.

Let the little stuff slide. It’s how they grow—and how we do too.

RAD DAD

Wylie Robinson

📍Portland, OR
💼 Founder & Board Chair @ Rumpl
👶 Dad to two boys, ages 3 and 5

If you’ve ever tossed a Rumpl blanket in your trunk before a road trip, you’ve got Wylie Robinson to thank. The San Francisco native (now raising two boys in Portland, OR) built Rumpl from the back of a van into a go-to gear brand for outdoor lovers and backyard campers alike.

When he’s not running board meetings or chasing down the next product launch, he’s helping with breakfast, doing school drop-offs, and trying to sneak in bike rides or work on the little moto track in his backyard.

Wylie’s best advice for new dads?

“Take it one day at a time. Kids are rewarding but can also be super challenging, and you can’t let the tougher moments consume you.”

Solid reminder from a guy who’s built a business—and a family—one day at a time. Follow Wylie here and check out our full Q&A with him on the site.

Your New Go-To Blanket

You ever crawl into a sleeping bag and think, “Why isn’t everything this cozy?” That’s basically the idea behind Rumpl — a puffy, water-resistant, machine-washable blanket built for campfires, couch forts, and car trunks.

Invented by a dad (more on him in today’s Rad Dad ^), it’s perfect for tossing in with your weekend gear or bribing your kids to watch the stars for more than 30 seconds. I own a couple of these. Perfect for beach and backyard hangs.

Dad-tested. Kid-approved. Mom steals it every time.

If you treat your body like a successful business, results follow. Here’s how:

  • Set a clear goal — not “get in shape,” but lose 10 lbs in 90 days so you can sleep better and keep up with your kids.

  • Track your numbers — workouts, sleep, energy. Weekly check-ins. Like a dashboard for your body.

  • Stick to a rhythm — Sunday planning sessions. Accountability from a partner. Build momentum the same way you build a company.

Structure > motivation. That’s the move.
