Let’s get after it…

📕 DAD WISDOM

Teach ‘Em to Fish

How do you turn a broken thing into a lesson? Instead of just fixing it, ask: "What's wrong? Why is it wrong? What's causing it? How do we fix it?"

Kids hate it in the moment. But there's something powerful about teaching them to work through problems instead of just handing over solutions. When the Lego spaceship falls apart or the bike chain slips, it's tempting to just jump in and fix it. But someday they'll face problems we can't fix for them.

The real lesson isn't about fixing things. It's about teaching them to believe they can figure anything out - even if that means realizing the speaker was just unplugged the whole time. 👊

BADASS DAD

Michael Phelps

Before he was teaching his kids to swim, Michael Phelps was racking up more Olympic medals than most countries. But ask him about his proudest moments now, and he'll skip right past those 28 medals to talk about his four kids.

The same intensity that had him in the pool at 5am now goes into being present for every moment. "It's not about me anymore," he says.

The most decorated Olympian in history could've just coasted on his legacy. Instead, he's been brutally honest about the hard parts of parenting and mental health. "Being a parent is hard. I want to be the best dad I can be, but some days are just harder than others."

From breaking world records to breaking generational cycles (his own dad wasn't around much), Phelps is proving that sometimes your biggest wins come long after the crowds stop cheering.

Exercise vs. Training & Why You Should Care

Working Out Classic Film GIF

Here's the thing about fitness: there's a big difference between exercising and training. Exercise is random pushups between Zoom calls. Training is knowing exactly why you're doing those pushups.

Nothing wrong with exercise - it keeps you moving and healthy. But if you're trying to crush that first marathon or keep up with your kids on the trails, you might need to level up from "movement for the moment" to "meaning in every movement."

JUNK DRAWER

Lead From the Front: In Amazon's early meetings, Jeff Bezos would place an empty chair to represent the customer. During key decisions, he'd turn to it and ask: "What would the customer think?" The practice stuck - Amazon still references "the empty chair" in decision-making today.

Takeaway: Consider your family's perspective in every major decision, even when they're not there.

THE SPOT

Spaces that make you wanna stay a while

Imagine waking up in a glass cabin at 8,000 feet, where a 200-year-old fir tree casually grows through your living room. This Park City hideout sits on the edge of Rocky Point Preserve, where moose and eagles are your neighbors, and world-class skiing is just 30 minutes away.

Between the 270-degree windows and that massive deck overlooking the Uintas, it's the kind of place that makes you want to skip your return flight.
