Pretty, pretty good
Plus – come meet some solid dads this spring
March 09, 2026 | Read Online
Hey guys. Hope the weekend was solid and you fared well with the clock change. Felt like spring showed up across the country.
Also appreciate all the kind words on the second Go West episode (link below). Pretty cool seeing it out in the wild.
Alright, let’s get into it.

📕 DAD WISDOM
Good is Great
“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” -Steinbeck
A lot of us walk into fatherhood thinking we need to get it right. Be patient every time. Say the right thing. Set the perfect example. Never lose our cool.
And when we inevitably fall short, it stings. But maybe the shift is realizing perfection is not (and will never be) the assignment.
The pressure to be perfect actually gets in the way of being good. So maybe that’s the move.
Drop perfect. Aim for good. Good shows up. Good apologizes. Good keeps trying. And most days, if we’re being honest, pretty, pretty, pretty good is more than enough.

RAD DAD
Jason Khalipa
There’s a phrase that keeps coming up when you talk to Jason Khalipa.
Keep showing up.
Jason is a former CrossFit Games champion, runs gyms and a digital fitness company, and is a dad to two kids in San Jose.
But fatherhood, he’ll tell you, has been the ultimate proving ground. Just when you think you’ve got parenting figured out, you realize you don’t. It’s a constant evolution that forces you to grow as a husband and a dad.
One moment that reshaped everything came the night his daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. A nurse gave him and his wife one piece of advice that stuck: keep your date nights.
Because if the parents aren’t locked in, the whole thing starts to wobble.
These days Jason keeps life simple. Garage workout before 6:30. School drop-offs. Sports practices. Dinner at 6. Bed by 9.
Family. Fitness. Business.
And the biggest reward? Watching his kids face challenges and come out stronger on the other side.

DAD BOD
A 72-Hour Fast

Giphy
A lot of posts poppin’ up about 72-hour fasts on Instagram, and ya, there’s some science behind it.
Around the 48–72 hour mark, fasting may increase autophagy, the body’s cellular recycling system that clears out damaged or dysfunctional cells.
Most of the strongest evidence comes from animal studies, but human fasting studies show the metabolic signals that trigger it.
So yes, the biology is real.
But skipping nine straight meals is still a serious dad flex. Has anyone tried the full 72 hours? Let us know.

COMMUNITY

Break the Routine: Quick update on the Built for More weekend in Charleston at the end of April.
When we launched, tickets were $849. After talking with a bunch of you, we heard the same thing: guys want to come, but that price made it tough to pull the trigger. So we dropped tickets to $649.
Same plan. Same workouts, speakers, beginner surf lessons, cold plunges, and dinners. Nothing watered down. We might lose a couple bucks, but we’d rather have 25–30 great dads in the room.
The goal is simple: break the routine for a couple days and spend time with dads who like to get after it. This ain’t for everyone, and that’s fine.
But if getting outside, moving your body, and meeting a solid crew of dads sounds like a good time… come hang. Plus it’s just the right amount of time. Happy Hour on Thursday evening to kick it off, and you’re back home for Saturday evening.
Bring a dad friend and get $100 bucks off each ticket (must buy 2 together). Discount code: BFM-GROUP
