📕 DAD WISDOM

Lessons From Our Kiddos

This weekend, I caught myself learning from my kid.

A teammate had said some mean things at soccer practice the week before, and honestly, I was still stewing on it. Then I watched the two of them play together like it never even happened. No grudge, no drama…just back to being teammates.

It made me think of that Ted Lasso line: “Be a goldfish.” My kid had already moved on while I was the one holding onto it.

Parenting’s funny like that. You think you’re the teacher, but half the time they’re showing you the real lesson.

RAD DAD

Chris Stapleton might be a country music powerhouse, but at home in Nashville, he’s just “Dad” to five kids. Along with his wife, he balances tours and award shows with everyday dad moments like making breakfast or driving around town.

Stapleton’s parenting style is rooted in humility and honesty. He’s clear about what he hopes to pass on: “Here’s what I hope for my children: that they are the best parts of me and that they can overcome the worst parts of me. I want my children to be themselves, whoever they are.”

He stresses that it’s okay to make mistakes—as long as you own them—and admits he’s still working on the whole work-life balance thing. Time off the road, he says, gave him the chance to really “check in” and connect with his kids in deeper ways.

DAD TOYS

Car Detailing

Peak dad move: getting way too into keeping the car spotless. This brush set makes it easy—soft bristles for the delicate stuff, tough enough for grime, and slim enough to hit all the nooks and crannies. At $16 bucks, well worth it IMO.

Get it here.

Get Fitted for Shoes

Wear It If The Shoe Fits GIF by Complex

As we get older, the right shoes matter more than ever. Running, lifting, chasing kids around the yard—your feet are the foundation. If they’re not supported, everything upstream (knees, hips, back) takes a hit.

Why a proper fitting helps:

  • Better alignment: A gait analysis shows how you move so you’re not fighting against your own stride.

  • Injury prevention: Shoes matched to your foot shape and activity reduce stress on joints.

  • Performance boost: The right fit keeps you efficient, whether it’s miles on the road or reps in the gym.

Pro Tip: Most local running or shoe stores will do a free gait analysis and set you up with recommendations that actually fit your body.
